TY So Far : )

So far, I have really enjoyed Transition Year!
I’ve had chances to do a lot of things I’ve never experienced before.
I’ve never had a job in my life, and this year I’ve had two so far, and have just started my third one!

-Scoil Naomh Bríd Primary School
-Setanta Sports Broadcasting House
-ABsolutely FABulous Flowers

I really enjoyed my first two work placements, and I have a feeling I will really like my third one too! When organising my work placements, I made sure to choose three completely different ones, so I could experience more.
We have done many activities in aid of several charities…

-“HollyDays” for ISPCC
-“National Pancake Party” for Tallaght Children’s Hospital
-“Lollipop Day” for the Oesophageal Cancer Fund

We have taken part in competitions, such as “The Briary Gap TY Drama Competition”, where we got a chance to write and perform our own play, and “MiniCompany” where we invented and sold our own product. I have never taken part in any competition similar to “MiniCompany” before, and I really liked it. It made me feel much older for some reason...maybe because we had a lot of responsibilities, and we had to organise the whole thing ourselves!
We have gone on several trips, such as the traditional trip to Carlingford J We also went on a maths trip to Rathbeggan Lakes, a science trip to the RDS (BT Young Scientist) and a Road Safety talk in Punchestown.
Apart from the trips and activities, I think TY has made me much more confident, and it has allowed me to make loads of new friends! I’m so excited for the rest of the year!

Best Work Experience Ever!!

Hellooo! :)

So on Wednesday, the 7th January, us TY’s started our second work placement!

I am working in Setanta Sports Ireland, and loving it! It’s completely different to my last placement

working in a primary school, as this time I am in an office building surrounded by adults instead of

children!

When I first went in last week, I was very nervous as there were no other TY students working with

me. I met with my supervisor, and was given a tour of the building, where I got to see the filming

studio, editing suites, broadcasting room, greenroom, and various other rooms used for the

production of programmes on Setanta Sports.

While working here I have:

- Worked with the graphic designer, creating ads for the company.

-Worked with the media/marketing director.

-Worked with the librarian in the library (which holds videos of all matches/documentaries
which were broadcasted by Setanta Sports Ireland throughout the years.)

- Worked with the Promo director.

-Toured to different media outlets in Dublin (e.g. 98 FM, The Star, Irish Daily Mail) with the FA
    Cup.

-Worked with the sound man, and the voiceover man.

I have really enjoyed my experience here so far, and I have experienced so many different

job roles.  I only have two more days left to work in Setanta Sports, and I will definitely be

sad when it’s finished!! :(

Work Experience, woo!

Recently we started our first work placement! The plan is that every Wednesday, from now until December 3rd, we will be attending our work placements, and discovering whether or not we would like to work in our chosen area in the future.

I chose my old primary school, Scoil Naomh Bríd, for my first placement. I chose here as I think I may be interested in becoming a teacher in the future, and I enjoy working with and helping children. So far I have spent three Wednesdays working in the primary school, and have extremely enjoyed each day.

I am working in a senior infant class (the students are around 5 or 6 years old). So far, I have helped the students with their maths, art and PE classes. I have also helped the teachers with some jobs such as cutting out & laminating worksheets, and hanging up pictures on the wall. My favorite job has probably been helping out with the art, as art is my favorite subject.I have helped them make "marble art", where they placed three marbles which had been dipped in paint onto a page sitting in a baking tray. They had to roll the marbles around the page until there were lots of different coloured lines on the page. Last Wednesday they had to make "autumn trees" where I had to paint their hand and wrist with brown paint. They then had to stamp their hand onto the page to make the bark and branches, and create leaves with green, yellow, orange and red paint! All the students were constantly talking to me about Halloween and what costumes they will wear! It's also nice to see all the teachers whom I used to have.

the primary school is handy to get to, as it is only a ten minute walk from my house. There are also four other girls from TY doing the placement with me, Orla (http://tyblogok.blogspot.ie/), Molly  (http://mollymonster1998.blogspot.ie/), Amy (http://amyrosejackson.blogspot.ie/) and Aimee (http://aimee9888.blogspot.ie/).

I'm really glad I chose here for my first placement, and I am looking forward to the next few Wednesdays I will be spending here!
